MATERIALS
Many decisions are made in this phase. We consider our materials to ensure that they are prepared for a thoughtful future.
We are working with goals in connection with Sustainable sourced Cotton, Recycled polyester and Man-made Cellulosic fibres. Our goal is to reach 30% organic cotton use, by 2025. The actual number today is 22%.

WE WORK WITH certified
and/or branded MATERIALS
We are working on doing our part and want traceability and transparency to drive our business – especially on material-level. Certified and Branded materials are how we think and talk about the materials that we use. We operate with: Organic fibres, Recycled fibres, Innovative fibres & Responsibly sourced fibres. The materials that we use are selected based on following criteria:
1. Impact: Reduced environmental impact (LCA) compared to the conventional fibre alternative.
2. Integrity and Certification: Fibre is traceable through the supply chain through a chain of custody certification or a fibre fingerprint tracer.
We leave a significant footprint when raw materials are transformed into yarn and fabrics. To be accurate, 80% of our total climate impact derives from the use of raw materials, yarn and fabric production. We will increase the use of certified and branded materials year-on-year on a great part of our products. We aim to not source any conventional cotton by 2022.
The minimum content requirement of certified and branded material, for VERO MODA to be able to make a claim on the product, is at least 50%. This can include a combination of two or more materials - as long as the sum is at least 50%.

ORGANIC MATERIALS
ORGANIC COTTON
Minimum content requirement 50%
Organic cotton is grown using methods and materials that reduce negative impact on the environment without toxic pesticides or synthetic fertilizers, improving soil health and protecting biodiversity. But aside from the obvious environmental benefits of organically grown cotton, the absence of hazardous chemicals also helps to improve the work environment of the local farmer.

RECYCLED MATERIALS
RECYCLED WOOL
Minimum content requirement 30%
Recycling wool saves natural resources like water and energy. Instead of shipping wool to disposal at landfills, recycling wool helps reduce the amount of textile waste. The recycled wool is reborn and later refashioned into new clothes.
RECYCLED COTTON
Minimum content requirement 50%
Recycled cotton is made from manufacturing waste like leftover fabric scraps or from used cotton garments and textiles. Recycling cotton reduces the waste of a natural resource like water. The amount of cotton waste that could have ended up in landfills is also significantly reduced.
RECYCLED NYLON
Minimum content requirement 50%
Recycled nylon – also known as polyamide - is a synthetic material commonly sourced from post-industrial waste fibres like leftover fabric scraps collected from the spinning factory and waste from weaving mills. Recycling nylon fibres saves natural resources and reduces the amount of textile waste.
RECYCLED POLYESTER
Minimum content requirement 50%
Recycled polyester is a synthetic material made from waste items like plastic bottles or leftover textiles waste from manufacturing. Recycling polyester saves natural resources and reduces the amount of waste.

PREFERRED MAN-MADE
CELLULOSICS FIBRES
TENCEL™ LYOCELL FIBRES
Minimum content requirement 50%
TENCEL™ branded lyocell fibres are high-quality, cellulose fibres made from wood pulp. The wood pulp is derived from sustainably managed forestry and processed in a 99% closed-loop system where water and solvents are recycled, limiting the waste of natural resources and the use of solvents in production. TENCEL™ is a trademark of Lenzing AG.
LENZING™ ECOVERO™ FIBRES
Minimum content requirement 50%
LENZING™ ECOVERO™ branded viscose fibres are viscose fibres made from wood pulp. The raw botanic materials are derived from semi-natural forests or from sustainably managed forests – controlled and regulated in accordance with a stringent wood sourcing policy and certified with FSC and PEFC.
LENZING™ ECOVERO™ fibres are also EU Ecolabel certified, meaning that the manufacturing of LENZING™ ECOVERO™ fibres has a significantly lower environmental impact than comparable fibres in the market.
LENZING™ and ECOVERO™ are trademarks of Lenzing AG.
LIVAECO BY BIRLA CELLULOSE™
Minimum content requirement 30%
Livaeco™ by Birla Cellulose. It is a man-made cellulosic fibre from wood pulp sourced from FSC® certified forests and is traceable across the value chain. Livaeco™ saves water and reduces environmental impact.
VISCOSE CIRCULOSE® By Renewcell
Minimum content requirement 50%
Renewcell are pioneering a sustainable and circular recycling method that creates a new, high-quality material by gently covering cotton and viscose from old clothes. Called Circulose®, this game-changing and scalable technology aims to reduce the industry’s reliance on virgin cotton and wood. Circulose® can be recycled again and again without losing any of its quality or performance value.
TENCEL™ REFIBRA™
Minimum content requirement 50%
TENCEL™ REFIBRA™ branded fibres are high-quality, cellulose fibres made from wood pulp mixed with 30% cotton waste from textile manufacturing. The wood pulp is derived from sustainably managed forestry and is produced in a closed loop system. TENCEL™ REFIBRA™ is a trademark of Lenzing AG.

CERTIFIED ANIMAL FIBRES is certified as responsibly sourced according to verified
third party standards
CERTIFIED DOWN
Minimum content requirement 100% RSD
In VERO MODA we only use responsibly sourced down that is sourced from sources certified to the Responsible Down Standard (RDS).
The RDS requires animal welfare practices to be in place at the duck and goose farms in the down and feather supply chain.
CERTIFIED WOOL
As part of the BESTSELLER, we have a goal to source all our wool from responsible sources by 2025 - meaning certified to the Responsible Wool Standard (RWS) or equivalent standards, organic wool or recycled wool.
The Responsible Wool Standard verifies wool animal welfare and land management requirements and tracks it from the source to the final product.
